Artificial Intelligence Based Fish Counts Biotactic began developing AI-based fish detection and counting systems in 2013 using a proprietary set of training data to generate deep learning models that can accurately detect untagged fish in a variety of environments and conditions. Field testing first began at fish ladders in Ontario in 2021. To date, our deep learning system has been …

Arctic Char in Hope Bay

In July 2021 and 2022, Biotactic staff travelled to Hope Bay, Nunavut to build fish fences equipped with 2 BRAVO G3 fish monitoring and counting systems. Conducted in association with Minnow Environmental for Agnico Eagle Gold, this project is designed to measure the effectiveness of a rocky ramp fishway, or boulder garden, for restoring access for migratory Arctic Char and Lake Trout to and from Robert’s Lake. Movement will be monitored for several months and passage metrics will be calculated to determine passage success relative to baseline studies.
