Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI)

Prior to in-water remediation, Biotactic Incorporated used boat electrofishing in the inner harbour in Lake Ontario to remove, relocate, and rescue a variety of fish species. This project was part of the Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI) which involves the cleanup of historic low-level radioactive waste and long-term waste management within the Municipality of Port Hope. This is the largest environmental clean-up project ever conducted in Canada and one of the largest in North America. Biotactic team members were specifically trained and certified by Canadian Nuclear Laboratories to safely work in various low-level radiological zones. Over the course of the project, we relocated 5169 fish including 24 fish species.
