Arctic Char in Hope Bay

In July 2021 and 2022, Biotactic staff travelled to Hope Bay, Nunavut to build fish fences equipped with 2 BRAVO G3 fish monitoring and counting systems. Conducted in association with Minnow Environmental for Agnico Eagle Gold, this project is designed to measure the effectiveness of a rocky ramp fishway, or boulder garden, for restoring access for migratory Arctic Char and Lake Trout to and from Robert’s Lake. Movement will be monitored for several months and passage metrics will be calculated to determine passage success relative to baseline studies.

Seasonal surveys are conducted using BRAVO M2 systems and the species, direction of movement, time, and condition of each unique fish is transcribed from recorded video.
